Storage & Backup Administrator is responsible for managing and ensuring the availability, integrity, and security of the organization's data through backup and recovery processes.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement backup strategies and policies based on the organization's data storage requirements, compliance regulations, and recovery objectives.
Perform regular backups of critical data and systems, including file systems, databases, applications, and virtual machines.
Conduct data recovery and restoration activities in case of data loss and system failures
Monitor backup processes, ensuring successful completion of backups, and generating reports on backup status, data growth, storage utilization, and system performance.
Manage and maintain the storage infrastructure, including storage arrays, tape libraries, disk-based backup systems, and cloud storage solutions.
Implement security measures to protect backup data from unauthorized access, ensure data encryption during transit and storage, and adhere to regulatory compliance requirements regarding data retention and privacy.
Maintain accurate documentation of backup procedures, configurations, and operational guidelines.
Stay updated with the latest backup technologies, trends, and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Strong knowledge and understanding of various storage technologies is essential. This includes familiarity with storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), and direct-attached storage (DAS). Knowledge of RAID configurations and storage protocols such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NFS (Network File System).
Proficiency in backup and recovery concepts and practices is crucial.
Knowledge of backup software and tools, such as Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, or Commvault.
Experience with storage management tools. This include software like EMC VMAX, NetApp OnCommand and IBM Spectrum Virtualize.
Knowledge of encryption methods, access controls, data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), and best practices for securing data in storage and during backups is important.
Professional certifications: CompTIA Storage+ or CompTIA Server+; EMC Proven Professional (EMC Storage Administrator, EMC Data Scientist, etc.); NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA); Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE);
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or similar certifications related to cloud storage and backup technologies.
